July is often warm, dry, and sunny: perfect for garden enthusiasts, but quite challenging for your plants and lawn. To ensure your garden stays beautiful and healthy, proper care during this summer month is especially important. With this handy garden calendar, you’ll know exactly what to focus on in July!
Lawn Care
Mowing: Mow your lawn 1 to 2 times per week, depending on growth. In summer, avoid cutting the grass too short; a length of 4–5 cm is ideal to prevent burning and drying out.
Watering: Water your lawn as needed to prevent yellow patches. Tip: it’s better to water deeply and thoroughly once than a little bit every day. This allows water to penetrate deeper into the soil, making your lawn stronger.
Feeding: A well-fed lawn stays fuller, greener, and suffers less from bare spots, moss, and weeds. Feed your lawn three times a year: in spring, summer, and autumn. If you missed it in June, July is the perfect time to do it.
Plants & Flower Beds
Postpone planting new flowers: Now is not the best time to plant new flowers or trees. High temperatures and limited rainfall make it difficult for young plants to establish roots. It’s better to wait until autumn, when conditions are more favorable.
Provide enough water: Make sure existing plants in your flower beds don’t dry out. Pay extra attention to young garden plants and newly planted trees, as they are particularly vulnerable during this hot period.
Insects & Diseases
Check your plants regularly for insects, pests, and diseases. July is an active month for garden pests. The sooner you spot any issues, the easier they are to address. Watch for yellowing leaves, holes, or discoloration, and take timely action to keep your plants healthy.
