May is a month of growth and bloom! Temperatures are rising, the sun appears more often, and your garden plants are starting to grow vigorously. This means it’s time to give your garden some extra care and attention. That’s why we’re sharing a few handy tips to help you keep your garden in top shape.

Feeding plants in the garden
Due to rising temperatures, outdoor plants need more water. But be careful: it’s better to water your plants deeply twice a week than to give them a little every day. Always check the soil before watering—if it’s still moist, additional water isn’t necessary.
Since plants grow rapidly in May, your garden plants may also need extra nutrients. Support them with a quality fertilizer, such as the MAYA All-in-One organic fertilizer. This will help them stay strong and healthy, so you can enjoy a beautiful garden all summer long.
Mowing and pruning in May
A beautiful lawn starts with proper mowing. If you have an ornamental lawn, keep it trimmed to a height of 3–4 cm (about 1.2–1.6 inches). If your lawn is used more intensively—for example, by playing children or frequent use—maintain a height of around 5 cm (2 inches).
Although grass experiences a growth spurt in May, some plants and shrubs have already finished flowering. Rhododendrons, for instance, often stop blooming around this time, making it the perfect moment to prune them. Cut the branches just above a cluster of leaves to encourage new growth and keep the shrub compact and full.
Caring for potted plants
After the Ice Saints (mid-May), the risk of night frost is usually over, and your potted plants can go back outside. However, it's best to “harden them off” first by placing them outdoors during the day and bringing them back inside at night for a few days. This helps them adjust to outdoor temperatures and prevents stress or damage.
Still have empty pots? Fill them with colorful summer flowers to give your garden a fresh and cheerful look. Petunias, geraniums, or begonias are great choices to add a vibrant splash of color!
